My life in photos (week 37-2015)

I know this was supposed to Sunday’s post but I lost track of time! 🙂

image

I went totally crazy just seeing this little lady with the dress I crocheted for her! I was so happy that her mum liked it and really appreciated it! Those people just make me want to knit and knit until the end of yarn!! Doesn’t she look amazing? Sorry for the “musk” but you understand that I have to protect her from giving autographs so young!!!!

Still enjoying the beach! I don’t want to complain but when will winter come?!

F did it again! Not only he made me a spinning wheel, he also winded the yarn! How not to love that guy?
Tuesday 1/9/2015

image

We found a sea horse!!!! He was hurt and couldn’t swim very well. The only we could do was to get him deeper and hope the best for him….

Another creation by F! A weathercock (according to Google translation) made of an old fan heater! Now I will know when the wind is good for kitesurfing! 😉

Sorry for the blurring photo! I know, clean your lens! Be sure that I will! It’s two funny faces on my and F’s finger! Like two worms in love, watching the sunset…..!!

Aunt P brought this for me from Chicago! I had asked for wooden crochet hooks and she brought me needles! She didn’t even know the difference between hooks and needles!!!!

Week 36-2015 (continued)

So after seeing Fiskardo, feeling tired from driving hours in bumpy roads, we decided to stay close to our home. Swimming at Mega Lakkos sounded great. And why not treat ourselves with a diy free spa on the beach?

First of all we went close to the clay hills….

image

We found smooth pieces of clay with no sand on them!

image

(Once there was sand but I thought it was ok. My skin was as if I had a fight with ten cats! Full of scratches! )

Then we got in the water and soaked the pieces until they look like plasticine.

image

Then we rubbed it all over our skin.

image

And let it dry.

image

Yes, I looked like this on the beach!!!! My F also! Actually that kind of sight is very common at that beach !

So after the clay dried completely and we felt like statues, we got in the water, rubbed our skin until clean and voilà! Super smooth skin!  🙂

Our batteries were charged, so we hit the road again with Assos as our destination.

image

Assos is a peninsula. The bay is very close so almost no wind can reach the boats.

image

image

Also there is an ancient castle on the hill across the city.

image

The streets are truly unique! Colorful flowers are everywhere!

image

And every little alley is leading to the sea…

image

image

Isn’t Assos beautiful? Even the back side has a wild beauty of its own!

image

That were our holidays! I feel grateful for living in such a beautiful place that people from all around the world come to visit!
Here is an airline commercial about Kefalonia! I’m sure you’ll recognise some of those places! 🙂

We spent some more days resting, sleeping till noon, reading our books and I was very productive on my knitting as I am always when I don’t work! I finished my Greek crisis top and casted on a vest  inspired by that pin. More details on the following related posts….

My life in photos (week 36-2015)

This week’s post will be different. This week we were on holidays!

The last time we were on holidays was more than 5 years ago. All these years we are saving money to build our house. Hopefully this winter we will start the construction. We won’t have the whole amount that is needed to be finished but we think that it will be livable and little by little will be done.

But we were also very tired these days. Working in heat for weeks, watering and taking care of the garden daily, visitors that we were more than happy to have, Naya still acting like a puppy, we hit our limit of exhaustion.

Taking some days off work was needed! I don’t think I have mentioned before that for the last 4 years F and I work at the same fishfarm, me as an ichthiologist and F in the maintenance grew. Taking just a few days off together is a huge deal!!

This time we did it! Just for a week but still we did it!! 🙂
So we were on holidays but we didn’t leave our island because we had to stay on a budget. We decided to be tourists on the same place that we live! And it was fantastic! Laying on the beach all day and sleep in your bed? Any time baby!! 😀

Our holidays started at the “private beach” I told you about last week.

image

There are two ways to get to this beach. Either you climb up and down a hill or you walk on those spiky rocks.

image

We took the second way that time and found some treasures….

image

image

Sea shell fossils! Amazing!!!! There were hundred of them for who knows how many years!!!!

The next day we hit the road for swimming at Skala’s beach which is at the other side of Kefalonia. Skala is full of hotels and tourists so we fitted perfectly! 😉

image

Next to Skala is the port of Poros. On the way there are some beautiful and less crowded beaches.

image

Poros is a beautiful little town surrounding by trees.

image

On the next day we wanted to go at Antisamos beach. One of my favourites.

image

image

But it was so crowded that we couldn’t even park the car! Where all these people came from? I’m not agoraphobic but after this I might became one…!

So we left for Sami, where F have spent lots of his childhood summers. He remembered a small beach….

image

It was marvellous! Exactly what I needed! The water was cool and there was shade from the trees. We even took a nap there!

Another day we visited Fiskardo, on the north side. The road was under construction so we had to take a detour from Agia Eufimia.

image

Up on the mountain where you could see Ithaka island….
The island of Odysseys! Perhaps next time….

image

After about 2 hours we arrived at Fiskardo.

image

image

image

Fiskardo is a very touristic place that people with sailing boats usually go there.

image

And some luxurious boats that were bigger than my house….

Fiskardo hadn’t been destroyed by the earthquake that happened at 1953 that had flatten the rest of the island, so you can see old, beautiful buildings of different architecture.

image

Or to get you in the mood, what about a bit of black and white?

image

After sweating in the town, we headed to Foki beach.

image

image

Of course we went at the rocks at the side where was more quiet….

image

We could just go in the water but we didn’t mind! We also found a small cave that you could get there only by swimming so I have no photos of it.

Another famous beach there is Dafnoudi. There is a beautiful path through the trees to get there. About 20 minutes of walking which for F was like a marathon! He was weaning the whole way! Despite that, it was a truly wonderful walk!

image

image

image

image

Did you notice that some trees grow in the rocks? Isn’t nature unbelievable?

And then out of nowhere….

image

The beach was nice but wasn’t something special, just another kefalonian beach. For F wasn’t worth the walking. I don’t think that anything would! 😛
When we were about to leave I noticed a cave though where the water sounded magical! Echoing! Even that didn’t impress my F!!!!
image

I hope I didn’t bore you with this long post….
Oh! I have so many more beautiful places to show you….!
I think I will write the rest of it tomorrow….
Night night my friends!

My wonderful boyfriend cooked for me! It was a special order! Spaghetti with shrimps! I ate until my stomach was full and I kept going!
Sunday 15/8/2015

image

Have you ever walked on the beach and saw these things on the sand? Probably. But I don’t think you would picked them up! Those are squid bones! We are walking a lot on the beaches trying to find as many as we can! It’s a great source of calcium for our canaries!
Monday 16/8/2015

image

The Mega Lakkos bay from above! Mega Lakkos means big pit because in the water the sand forms a huge puddle.
Tuesday 17/8/2015

My boys are soooo funny when they’re eating parsley! And also very happy!
Wednesday 18/8/2015

image

Isn’t this photo with the sea urchin really beautiful?
After 8 years living in Kefalonia, I found this wonderful and (most important) empty of people beach! 😀 We had to climb up and down a hill full of spiky busses but it was worth it! It was quite!!!!
Thursday 19/8/2015

image

If you haven’t tried baked figs rapped with bacon, you must!!!! Seriously! It’s heaven in a bite! Even though I’m not supposed to eat figs, I couldn’t resist and ate about 3 or 4! Ok 7!!!! Try some and tell me then if you could stop!
Friday 20/8/2015

image

I went kitesurfing!!!! 😀
After a very long time! The wind wasn’t helping and if I wasn’t excited about it, I would say that it sucked but still….
I was so out of shape that later in the evening even breathing was painful!!!!

The ABC’s Knitting Survey by Yarn Birdy

Thanks to Alina from The gift of knitting blog, not only did I found out about another wonderful knitting blog, the Yarn Birdy, but also had a lot of fun reading the answers-dark secrets of other knitters!
Alexis knitting survey is a great idea for sharing your knitting habits without omitting the fun and the excitement!
Could I not participate? Of course not and I would suggest every knitter to do the same! I want to read the answers of more people! I want to know each other better! Here are my secrets alphabetically!

Alone or with my mum and grandma when I’m back home.

Best I would say my Aidez cardigan! It was a big step for me at that time! I must write a proper post about it….

Circular for almost everything except socks. Socks and double pointed needles come together.

Dream of knitting a cardigan with a cable pattern down the back! This winter hopefully!

Earliest knitting memory is a scarf in moss stitch when my mum was trying to get me into knitting. It didn’t work! It was years later that I picked up the needles.

Family. My mum and grandma are vicious knitters!

Gloves? Haven’t knit yet. Mittens? Yep I like them! Socks? LOVE THEM!!!! Knitting your socks it’s a whole new experience!!!!

Home. Knitting outdoors was never my thing.

Intarsia? Haven’t tried it yet. Nor fair isle but I think I should. If stripes is considered as color work, then that’s my favorite!

Joke. When my sister walked in the house and saw me knitting, she thought it was a joke!!!! I still remember her face!!!! Hilarious!!!!

Loyal. I LOVE knitting! And crochet! Is sewing considered cheating?!

Mistakes. I’ve never knit anything and haven’t make at least one mistake! I try to work on my perfectionism and knitting has been a great lesson! Sometimes mistakes happen but I don’t always correct them! I choose to live with them!

Next project? Haven’t thought of that! I’m trying to finish my wips at this time….

One or two or up to three projects at once. Some take a lot of time which makes me lose my interest so I feel the need for something new or something fast. Also the wips multiply when something “I -must-knit-this-now” happens!

Best Pattern would be my granny’s foremataki (which means little dress in Greek) because it’s my granny’s pattern and also because my mum showed it to me! It’s a pattern so close to my heart!

Quick when I take my leave from work! For the rest of the year I’m slow, really slooooow!

Ravelry! The knitter’s bible! I want to kiss the inventor of ravelry!!!!

Stitch. Anything! From stockinette to cables!

Toys! If you haven’t tried amigurumi, you definitely should!

Ugliest. A hat I knitted for F. He looked like a crazy french painter! I couldn’t believe that thing came out of my hands!

Volume of my stash! Since I buy yarn only once a year, it’s kind of big but not as big as I would like. I feel sort of oppressed by it when I find a pattern but not having the yarn….

Wool? Didn’t have the pleasure yet. I tend to buy acrilic because I find a super great variety of it or cotton for my summer knits.

Exactly! I’m very insecure when it comes to modifications. I feel very capable of totally destroying a pattern! I must be more bold in the future….

Yarn from a hidden arcade at Piraeus! I spend a whole afternoon every time I’m there. By the way, I want to apologise to the staff! It’s a year’s yarn!!!! It’s a difficult choice!!!!

Z-Zeta wants to thank Alexis for this and you all for the support! I’m very grateful to meet you all! Every time it’s like meeting with dear friends with our needles and hooks on our hands, sharing our news and experiences! I feel good here, exposing myself. My knitting world was nonexistent before this blog. You became a big part of my life, even if the frequency of my posts doesn’t say so. I want to think that in the next year changes will happen. That my priorities will change but this place will be high on the list. Or at least you will see me at your place!  😉

My super wonderful F is making me a yarn winder! How lucky am I to have such a great (not to mention handy) boyfriend?! The yarn winder needs some adjustments though because the yarn gets tangled. Any thoughts on what’s wrong?

My best friend M and her husband S are here to visit us after 6 years! Actually when they got married, 3 years ago, I was something like the best man which in Greek we call koumpara. It’s so nice to have them here! Also it’s very nice when there is somebody to keep F occupied so I can read my book!!!! I’m at the 5th book of the Game of Thrones! I want to finish them by the end of the summer so we can start watching the series in winter nights!
Monday 9/8/2015

We were walking at the port with M and saw this beautiful boat! It was so nice to chat with an old friend that knows you better than you know yourself!

The clay rocks of Mega Lakkos beach. You can cut a piece and spread it on your skin, let it dry and when wash it off in the sea! It makes your skin perfect and smooth! Free spa on the beach! Anyone interested?????

Karavomylos. This place is magical! Water from the other side of the island is travelling underground and when forms this lake before meeting the sea! There is also a watermill in the back if you look closely….

Another sunset at Myrtos beach! My koumparoi had to see that, right? It was their last day here 😦
Friday 13/8/2015

At the 16th of August is the celebration of Agios Gerasimos who is according to the church, the protector of Kefalonia. The day before there is a big festival with all kind of staff. From clothes and sheets to pans and tools. Some ethic staff and of course grilled corn (that I’m not allowed to eat anymore), donuts and the famous greek souvlaki! This is where we spent most of our time because F wanted to buy all the birds and the little bunnies and the goldfishes!!!! I was like the bad mum that keeps saying no to the toddler!!!!

Don’t you love a good summer rain? The smell of wet soil? The promise of autumn and hours of knitting behind the window, hearing the rain? I just can’t wait for the summer to pass….
Tuesday 4/8/2015

I really like this picture! It’s so… summerish! I may look forward for cold, rainy, winter days but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate this season and everything that offers….

My F had really high fever all day. Actually I’ve never seen such high fever before! I was scared that if he fainted I couldn’t help him! Luckily he didn’t! He fell asleep exhausted and Naya didn’t leave his side!
